More about this scene
Weston's church, dedicated to St John the Evangelist, was built in the 1890s using money entirely raised from donations. Nearby is the village hall. Built to serve as a school for the children of workers who came into the region to work on the Manchester Ship Canal, it was closed in 1902 after the canal was completed and these families all followed their work elsewhere.
