More about this scene
On the western approach to the town, St Andrew's Church, in St Andrew's Road, was built in 1862. Many of its parishioners were employed by the Romford brewery. The Ind and Coope families were concerned with the welfare of their employees and in addition to providing sports and social facilities contributed to the cost of building and maintaining the church.
