More about this scene
Robin Hood's Bay is one of many beautiful villages which cluster around the steep-sided coves where the North York Moors reach the North Sea. At the time when this picture was taken, horses and carts like that in the centre of the photograph were still a common sight outside the Bay Hotel, overlooking the sea front. In the foreground, Mum and Dad watch over their children who are sitting in a small fishing boat.
