In May 1643 King Charles I, raising troops for war, reviewed 10,000 men at 'Crabbe Crosse' - or so it is said. It seems a large number if they were drawn only from the local area. Crabbs Cross mushroomed in the 19th century as rural needle makers moved into the area to be nearer the new Redditch factories.
