More about this scene

This is now a busy junction close to the shopping centre; this photograph gives no clue to the traffic jams that were to become so familiar in the near future. The pedestrians can safely cross the road without special signals - the traffic lights seem almost redundant. The M25 is still a pipe dream in the minds of the planners, but already the town has begun to develop. Local stores such as Barkhams, Kirschels and Walkers (centre and right) will soon be joined by branches of the major supermarket chains.

Barbers
I had many a dodgy haircut, and a few good ones, at De Sallas (?) In Darkes Lane. And my father and mother used to love the Embassy Club. My father used to take me wrestling at the Ritz. I saw Mick McManus, Big Daddy, Giant Haystacks, Kendo Nagasaki, and Adrian Street there. I used to like the Bridge House and the Conservative Club for an underaged Double Diamond or Skol too.

Further Memories Of Potters Bar

My name is Colin Dickins and I stumbled on this recollection by Arthur Brown and thought I would add some of my memories. While I don't recall the name we must be about the same age. I lived in Coningsby Drive and went much the same route. I also was a pupil of Mr Warren and Miss Thompson. My Home Town
I lived in potters bar all my life, until marrying in 1973 and moving to ware. My grandparents had lived here since the twentys, my dad joined the RAF in 1942, to serve his country during the Second World War. I remember well the Ritz in darkes lane, went there five days in a row to watch the great race, I was only eleven years old! Wylotts manner, thurleys toy shop mount grace school, all fond memory's! Growing Up In Potters Bar

However, if you would particularly like to buy one of these please get in touch quoting the Frith negative number,(s) the town name and size of print you would like to buy. On receipt of your enquiry our archivist will check the scan and advise you if the quality is good enough.

What is an Album?

An album is a way to save a selection of Frith photos, maps and memories that are of interest to you.

Creating an Album enables you to make short lists and then make a final selection from the album. In particular it makes ordering things like calendars much easier - simply create an Album of the 12 photos you like and then use the Album when placng your order - our order process will give you this option.

You can create as many Albums as you want, so perhaps make one for your hometown, where you live now, where your parents live now etc.
