In the foreground a trading wherry is shown in considerable detail. Another is berthed on the opposite bank, identifiable by the wide, shallow hull and very high pennanted mast. Sailing wherries ceased trading in the very early 1940s, but cargoes were transported up country from Yarmouth by motorised river wherries until the 1970s.
