More about this scene

An Anglo-Saxon church was built across the road towards the castle, and burials are recorded here from AD700. All Saints' was gradually established between the 13th and 15th century, but was laid in ruins during the Civil War - the Royalists used the tower as lookout over the fields. The tower and transept were restored in 1831, and a new nave was built in 1967 inside the ruins (left). The church is also famous for its double helix staircase.

St Joseph’ Junior School Pontefract
Born in December 1957 my maiden name was Kemp I must have started in Mrs Padgets class St Joseph's circa 1962. i remember the alphabet in pictures around the wall A is for apple B is for ball, C is for cat & D is for dog etc…I can still work my way through the images for every letter. We Did It
I claimed the walls in this picture in 1955 I was 10 years old two of us did it myself and best friend Goef Eastwood now deceased, sorry to say, we claimed it so far and we was so scared , we could not turn back so we had to go on and finish the climb, I still shake when I think what we did, great days, we went on to climb many more dangerous buildings.including the old Methodist church that was in Horse Fair,

Grandads Maggots
I was a Brownie as a young girl and a very accomplished one too. I had an armful of Badges which had been ever so carefully sewn all the way down the sleeve of my uniform by my Mother. As a Brownie i took part in the Remembrance day service each year. All the Youth organisations took place along with the Colliery bands and of course those who had fought in the wars and survived and current members of The KOYLI. ...see more

A Very Cold Bottom!! 1973/4
I was born in Pontefract. Christened and Married, as were my parents, in All Saints Church in Pontefract by the Reverand Fawkes, now diseased. I went to Chequerfield infants then Willow park junior school and Pontefract and district Girls High school( the brown knicker school) I would catch a bus into town, strangely enough from the very bus stop I live directly next to now,and then walk up to England's. Despite over 20 years’ work on the archive, these scans have still not been individually checked and may prove to be damaged, faded, or not of sufficient quality to ever be offered in our full product range. However, if you would particularly like to buy one of these please get in touch quoting the Frith negative number,(s) the town name and size of print you would like to buy. On receipt of your enquiry our archivist will check the scan and advise you if the quality is good enough.

What is an Album?

An album is a way to save a selection of Frith photos, maps and memories that are of interest to you.

Creating an Album enables you to make short lists and then make a final selection from the album. In particular it makes ordering things like calendars much easier - simply create an Album of the 12 photos you like and then use the Album when placng your order - our order process will give you this option.

You can create as many Albums as you want, so perhaps make one for your hometown, where you live now, where your parents live now etc.
