Saturday Morning Pictures

A Memory of Peckham.

Hi my name is Pat Stewart Nee Dear. I was born in Peckham in Furley Road. When I was about 4 we moved to Bird in bush Road next to Camelot school. My mum and dad,Rose and Arthur Dear.were well known in the area. My sister Mary and I used to go to the Regal cinema every Saturday morning along with hundreds of other very noisy kids. Tarzan and cartoons. A man playing the organ which used to come up from the depths and changed various colours.
I grew up and married John Stewart who came from Camberwell, from 133 Bird in bush road and went on to have 3 children, Maxine, Lee and Danny .
We all live in Kent and Sussex now but have fond memories of Peckham but would not like to go back there now, changed beyond all recognition.

Yes Pat remember you and Mary Mum & Dad so well. We all played together and Mum & Dad was very good friends of our mum & dad. We lived in the same street at number 98 next door to the Stewart family. opposite Camelot School, I was at your engagement.. Also used the Regal Cinema. Also have very fond memories of the times we had in those day's. But sadly now all those houses have gone, replaced with a park. And the Sidmouth Arms is now flats. We were a big family, you knew us as Pat, Joyce, Bob, Sheila Laroche. There was eleven in all but many had married by the time Mum & Dad moved there. Sadly there is only three now Pat, Sheila & Joyce. Me (Pat) has seven Grand children & six Great Grand Chidren. Often dream of the area as it was and strangley you were at the window as i passed in the dream Pat. Wished it was the same as it was. Lovely memories there.
Hi Pat,
Remember the accumalator Mary had to change. Shame she did not have something done early. But in those day's they did not seem to worry so much, and sad you lost her fairly young. Got on well with her. Was telling my children about the squidgyboard when we all sat round and turned the mantle down. "Spirit Spirit are you with us tonight" And the tin shed we had in the garden of the bombed house next door. Making tea and cooking. And remember Mrs Biggs two doors away from you. She was only tiny.

Hi, my name is Trevor Craske and my family had rooms at 100 Bird In Bush Road, like you opposite Camelot School. We lived there from 1952 to 1962 and I too remember Bill Shepherds sweet shop in Naylor Road and Saturday morning pictures at the Regal in Old Kent Road. My mum was a cleaner at the school and I there from nursery, to infants and to primary. Very happy memories.
My Nan was born at 100 Bird in Bush Road in 1903. Her Dad was Peter Senft.
