More about this scene

Built in the late 14th century for the Carthusian monks of Hinton Priory, the George Inn catered for the wool merchants who came to the town's two annual fairs: it performed a useful service and was a source of income. This famous and most attractive inn has a stone ground floor and two jettied timber-framed upper storeys and fire-proof stone side elevations; on each gable are rare original lantern-like stone chimneys.
