The Umbrella Tree

A Memory of Nork.

At the right hand side of the photo is a huge horse chestnut tree, that stood in the front garden of the house on the corner of Nork Way and Warren Road. As a little girl, l would walk to the shops at Nork with my mother, from our home in Roundwood View as we had no car back then. Sometimes, we would get caught in the rain and would shelter under the tree, so it became known to me as 'the umbrella tree'- it also gave us great conkers in the autumn! I never was sure what those strange bits of street furniture were on the left side of the photo, even though l walked past them almost every day. I just accepted them as part of the landscape...

With my mum, dad sisters Sheila & Moira & brother Neil.
We all sang in the Church choir in Warren Road.
Delivered papers for Apps.
We were also in the scouts and guides.
