Fulbrook School

A Memory of New Haw.

I'm trying to remember the teachers at Fulbrook School. I started there in the mid fifties .
My name then was Amanda Lawrence; house captain for Windsor, when in the senior class.
From what I remember, the teachers were
History - Mr. Evans
Geography- Mr. Elvidge
R.I.- Mr. Sellers
Art-Mr.Payne
Metal Work- Mr. Collins
Headteacher- Mr. Bean
Mathematics -Mr. Drawneek
Music- Mrs. Magrath (nee King}
English- Miss Edwards
P.E.-?
Domestic Science-?
Needlework -?

I know I played up in needlework; until the teacher from domestic science popped her head around the door and caught me being silly.

I started at Fullbrook 1958, very nearly aged 12 years. I was promoted to class 2g the following year, but never attained expectations. Other teachers were:- George Blanshard(moustache), woodwork and boatbuilding. P.E. was Jim Knight, Miss Seymour and a man taller than Jim Knight with thick black hair(a welshman I believe). Miss Audrey Purviss- domestic science? used to ride a bike with a large woven wicker basket behind the saddle. Mr Townsley and Mr Noyce, science. Mr Wilson, english. Mr Thomas and Mr Reid taught Spanish, Harry Wheeler taught the commercial students. I had no mention on my leaving card of 1963 of Mrs Olly Edwards (english teacher) but there was the name O. Lea. signed and I think I have memory that Miss Edwards married ? best wishes David Richards
