A Favourite Childhood Day Out
A Memory of Nesbitt Dene.
Nesbitt Dene (we knew it as Hart Dene) was a favourite place for we young lads in the 1950’s.
We reached it by a footpath running alongside the Hart- Wellfield railway line. A beautiful and quiet spot with a stream running through it which was a great source of frog spawn. There was an inclined plane with an abandoned narrow gauge railway track running up to the BR tracks. As there was a winding house at the at the top, I presume it was cable operated. Does anyone recollect its purpose?
There was also a tunnel through which the stream ran. With wellies, it was possible to walk through the tunnel and emerge in Crimdon Dene.
