More about this scene
The tramway was only electrified in 1903. Until then it had operated using gas-propelled trams. The gas was stored in reservoirs which gave sufficient fuel for sixteen miles. The gas trams were far from satisfactory, with the result that in 1900 twenty horse-trams were also acquired.
