More about this scene
The chemist's (left) became Holman, Ham & Company. Shop signs beyond the Three Cups Hotel include those of a Co-op store, the Tudor Cafe, and the Nook. Above the bay windows of the Royal Lion Hotel (right) the name of the former landlord Robert Lutke has been replaced by the motto of the Prince of Wales - 'Ich dien' - to go with his emblem of three feathers on the parapet. Captain Reginald R Slater was the publican during the Second World War, and Lionel Curtis was the landlord at the New Inn through the middle of the 20th century. Richards' Gifts (far right), at No 61, had a window of pewter, jewellery and watches.
