More about this scene
This view of St George's Plateau shows the London & North Western Railway Hotel; it was built by the London & North Western Railway Company, and opened in 1871. It was designed by Liverpool-born Alfred Waterhouse. The corporation thought that this area was so important that they paid towards the cost of the Storeton stone from the Wirral for this French Renaissance-style building. It has three hundred and thirty rooms. After standing empty for many years, today the building is owned by the John Moores University, and is used as student accommodation.
