John Abel built a number of market houses around the county of Herefordshire, only a few of which survive. This is said to be one of his although there is no documentation to prove it. Completed in 1645, it was used mainly as a corn market. Originally it had three storeys but the floor between the top two has been removed.

My name is Terry Hendy. I attended Suntrap school from 1956to 1961. I have very happy memories of the school and although away from home I was very well looked after and fed well. 1 saw the photo of Mr Brooks and Mr Campbell who I remember well and Mr Campbell was the cub and scout master. i was born in 1932 in malmesbury rd Canning Town in a house backing on to the railway goods and shunting yards. This provoked battle between the shunting locomotive firemen and my mother drying nappies on a clothes line on the other side of a brick wall.
Our shopping was done at Rathbone street market which ment crossing Barking road via a policeman who would hold up the traffic.

I used to live at Catford and my parents lived across the road to me, through out the summer holidays we could get cheap train travel, so we used to go to westgate, with the children, oh oh where has that cheap travel gone. this was about 1975. And my sister used to join us as well, we found a way to keep the children occupied. Then as they got a bit older we would take them for there summer holidays camping at Burmarsh ...see more
