More about this scene

Mrs Hitchman, widow of Dr Hitchman, donated the site for this church together with a large sum of money. St Mary's was built between 1877 and 1878 by John Cundall in brick with a prominent steeple. The interior is brick-lined. The tower was a mere 75 feet high and has been cemented over. In 1875 the old three-decker pulpit was removed and the font re-located. The horse and carriage gives a tranquil atmosphere on a road which now leads to an industrial estate.

George Goode
George Goode who was born at Wappenbury in the 1840s was one of the builders who worked on one of the many re constructions that took place over the years on this church. He was my  great grandfather on my father's side of the family. His daughter was Ellen Louisa Goode who married Thomas Pratt. He was once an officer at the Reformatory at Weston under Wetherley. He later became a master baker and became the village baker at Moreton Morrell.

On receipt of your enquiry our archivist will check the scan and advise you if the quality is good enough.

What is an Album?

An album is a way to save a selection of Frith photos, maps and memories that are of interest to you.

Creating an Album enables you to make short lists and then make a final selection from the album. In particular it makes ordering things like calendars much easier - simply create an Album of the 12 photos you like and then use the Album when placng your order - our order process will give you this option.
