More about this scene
Once largely occupied by stoneworkers from the nearby stone quarries, this village stretches along the highway for a considerable distance, hence its name, a corruption of 'Longtown'. The Matravers family were considerable landowners on the Isle of Purbeck, and one Matravers was bloodily involved in the murder of Edward II.
