We lived in Craigrownie Gardens from 1967 until 1982 and my children still talk about the idyllic life they had. Sergio's ice cream was the best I have ever tasted. My daughter Sue worked in his cafe and remembers that the recipe was very secret! I remember too that Mrs Allison in the draper's shop used to sell delicious bars of tablet. In the summer we used to spend hours on the beach at the bottom of School Road. Such a beautiful place to have brought my children up in.
Does anyone remember the Stuart's Home for Children.? It was between Kilcreggan and Cove.
Mrs Allison was my granny and I have to agree her tablet was yummy! I have her recipe but can never make it as good as my granny's!
My grandparents, William and Ena Boyd lived on Shore Road by the bus stop. We used to visit them when we came on leave from East Africa. One of my abiding memories was Sergio’s ice cream. I haven’t tasted anything as good since.
