More about this scene
George Lynn advertises his wares with considerable vigour on the south side of the triangular square, originally called Cross Bank. Nothing appears in the photograph to shake the post-war calm of the village, bypassed on its eastern side by the busy A6. The telephone box serves as a vivid reminder of so many that were destroyed, and replaced by ill-conceived 1990s substitutes.
