More about this scene
This view is from the beach towards the village. The road was developed in the Victorian period, and most of the houses and shops, like those on the right, are of that date. On the left, 'Ivy's for Everything' has become 'Mother Hubberd's Cubberd'. The shop run by J R Smith sold a wide range of goods, including bathing costumes and caps.
