Kendal, Steele's Yard, 123 Highgate 1914

More about this scene
A lad sits on his handcart on the right of this photograph, which was taken in a yard off Highgate. He appears to be in conversation with a friend seated on the other side of the cobbled yard, while others look on as they pose for the camera. Kendal has seen some wild times in its history, and these yards and passages, now peaceful backwaters, were designed to be closed off if an invasion was threatened.
