More about this scene
Standing on the bank of the Great Ouse about a mile from the centre of Kempston, the parish church is a stone building wherein the tower, at least, is Norman in origin. The belfry contains six bells, two of which are said to have been cast in 1603 and 1619. In the manner of a number of older village churches, All Saints stands clear of the original village and incomers find this rather puzzling, that is until the river floods in winter. The the building stands clear of the waters, but the roads leading to it can be immersed for several days at a time.
