On the far right, opposite the end of the pier and hidden by the Devon mist, is Larkstone Cove, site of a lime kiln where Welsh coal burnt Welsh limestone to produce the lime that was vital to regulate the acidity of the local soil. The cove was also used for loading and discharging ballast.
