More about this scene
Chambercombe is an ancient manor, named after the de Cambernon family, one of whom fought alongside William the Conqueror at Hastings. In 1098 Jordan de Cambernon came to Ilfracombe, and his descendants - variously known as the Champernouns, the Chambernons and the Chambrons - were lords of the manor and occasionally rectors of Holy Trinity until in the 17th century the manor was sold off.
