More about this scene
The Town Hall and magistrates' court still dominates Market Hill. It overlooks the recently refurbished Thinking Soldier war memorial, designed by Lady Kathleen Scott (widow of Captain Scott of the Antarctic) and erected in 1923. The new plinth includes an inscription commemorating those who fought in conflicts since 1945. The whole square was pedestrianised and paved in 2001, so parked cars are now a memory.
