A Memory of Hounslow.

I have many memories from Hounslow and I have enjoyed reading the ones here on this Frith website. My name was Rita Pilbrow and I lived with my mum and dad and 2 older sisters, Claudette and June, in Lampton Road. My dad had a building business and was an electrician, plumber and had a radio shop in Staines before having his own business. He had about 4 or 5 employees I think. One was BURNIE.
My family moved around 1965 to Dorset Way.
My friends at Bulstrode School were Pauline Clayton and Mavis Bowdon, does anyone remember them? We used to go out together sometimes. Pauline was a daughter to a photographer I think. I played with Peter Evans as a small child, he lived on the corner of Lampton Road opposite the Bulstrode pub. Peter Evans lived where the dairy was built
later on, it had a milk machine outside it. Peter had an older brother or father who was blind and who made cane baskets and other items. My friends were also Jenny and her young sister Penny, they had a young sister called Wendy too and a young brother, who lived around Lampton Road and also Susan Smith who got married very early.
I remember my boyfriends Alan, and also Ricky and has anyone seen or heard of the Hummerstons? They owned a sweet shop on Lampton Road.
I have some strong memories from Lampton Park and also the hospital where I started my training as a cadet nurse. Opposite there was a milk bar or coffee shop or like, with a juke box. We used to gather there.
I also have fun memories of the pictures on a Saturday. I remember putting an alarm clock-thing in my bag and everytime a couple kissed in the film I used to make it ring! I remember getting thrown out once. I came from a good but strict home, maybe therefore I was quite naughty at times, ha ha, but I was never in trouble with the police!
Next to us at number 30 Lampton Road, my uncle (dad's brother) lived in the top flat at number 32, with his wife and my cousin Kenneth Pilbrow. Ken is 56 or 57 now and we had a lot of fun in Hounslow, he and I We used to make bonfires in the pits at the back of Lampton Park after climbing over a fence.
I also remember the lovely and exciting fairground when they came to visit on Hounslow Heath.
Doe anyone remember a Steve Turner in Hounslow (he came from Bristol)?
I remember playing in Cranford Park and swinging on the trees, and fraying my jeans so they looked like Hawaii skirts by the ankles - and bell bottoms later!
Gosh ,we had some kind of patent shoes and coats, a shiny plaxtic stuff which must have looked quite awful.
If my antics haven't put you off completely I'd love to hear from you if you remember me. I have lots of memories from Hounslow good and bad, happy and sad.
Capture the moment!
Rita

I have been looking for my friend, Dave Bull. I believe he lived in Barrack Road, Hounslow West. Do you know him?
Hi, not sure if it is the David Bull you are looking for but he is my cousin and lived in Tivoli Road next door but 1 to me. I lived in the first house in Tivoli road, and my family owned several shops on the Staines Road opposite the Heath, We had Mascot (drapery) Bulls Grocers, and the Sweetshop, next to the chemist and Bobs Barbers, my name was Mariion Ould at the time, and had two brothers Tony & John, I went to Hounslow heath infant and junior, then Bulstrode, we used to love it there, with the fairs on the heath, and chips from our chip shop, we used to build a bonfire every november on the small dump opposite our house, and the Frampton road kids used to build one on the heath, always tough trying to stop them setting fire to ours before bonfire night. I used to work at Beldam Asbestos company, then Penguin Books, and lastly Parke Davis, lovely town then, shame its not now though. Marion Stubbs (Ould)
