More about this scene

A collection of almost classic cars parked on both sides of the street issues a warning of things to come in the small towns around Leicestershire. In a street of mainly late 19th- and early 20th-century buildings, the uncomfortable all-purpose shop fronts of the 1960s on the left warn of an equal disaster in the world of architecture. Note the original shop fronts in the building to the right of the photograph.

A Selection of Memories from Hinckley

For many years now, we've been inviting visitors to our website to add their own memories to share their experiences of life as it was, prompted by the photographs in our archive. Here are some from Hinckley

Sparked a Memory for you?

If this has sparked a memory, why not share it here?

I would have thought there was some memories as the Ridgway's coal and furniture firm were an old established business. Does anyone have any information please.
Does anyone know anything about a bakery in Earl Shilton around the time of 1930? My husband's family apparently lived and worked there and I'd love to find out more about it.
I lived up at the Three Pots on the A5, just opposite the pub of that name, me and my mum and dad had just moved there from Wellesborough near Sibson when I started at Burbage infant church school in 1955. On my first day at school, around November time, it was really cold with deep snow and me and my mum walked up to catch the H21 at the bus stop up by the Co-op at the top of Wolvey Road. My feet got so cold and wet ...see more
Hi Can anyone help me? Was there a Netherley House in Hinckley Road in the late 1930s/early 1940s? I have a relative who was born there in November 1940 but I cant see any record of the place. Any help would be appreciated. Regards Tracey
