Born in 1942, Lived in Westbrook Road. Attended Heston Infants School, Heston Junior School and Spring Grove Central School. I have lots of memories, but reading other people’s entries has reminded me of names of teachers which were long forgotten. I went to Heston Methodist Church from a very young age. It was good to see people's memories of Heston, as I spent much of my childhood there. My father was manager of a branch of grocers called Platts Stores Ltd, Norwood Green, although we were on the corner of Fern Lane Heston and Crosslands Avenue which came under Norwood Green. There were 3 shops in our parade, Platts, a newsagents cum sweetshop and Stowells wine shop, where my best friend Sylvia Merton lived. I ...see more
I was born in 1956 when my parents (Dennnis & Ena Barr) lived at 10, Lime Tree Road, Lampton. Like someone else here, my paternal grandparents were in Hogarth Gardens and I started school at Heston Infants. My main memory of the school was getting the ruler across my hand for sticking drawing pins in a new bench in the playground! I lived down fern lane at number 86, we moved there from cotingham in East Yorkshire when I was five, I went to norwood green infants and then junior school failed the 11plus and went to Heston secondary where I had the best five years of my life, not just at school but out of school with my pals, at the swimming baths and at the gravel pits as well.
