Hersham House School

A Memory of Hersham.

Hersham House was my first school. It was run my Mrs Jean Hewlett.I lived in the cottage next door and every afternoon after school she would help me. She recognised that I had problems with reading and I am indebted to her for her help.

Hersham for me is always linked with SHAM69. In Weybridge museum there are one of their discs (45rpm) on display. Hersham boys. What a group!!!!!!
I attended Hersham House School as a small child, from 1970-1972. I have many fond memories of Mrs. Hewlett, Mme Peters, and my childhood friend, Chantal Garvey.
I attended Hersham house school in the early 70s .
Mrs Hewlett was the headmistress , if l boarded my room was beside her kitchen. I remember fondly Mrs Peters, Mrs Erica, Mrs Gusterson who could be ferocious but had a kind heart and I en joyed her general knowledge quizzes , Mrs Turnbull ,Mrs Poulter Allowed me to be with her family if I was boarding at the weekends and she lived in the cul-de-sac opposite .Mr Vaness drove the bus.
I enjoyed escaping to have piano lessons in the little room at the end of the landing.
That was swimming first of all in the open air baths in Sunbury and then the Oatlands Park Hotel.
I do remember a girl called Chantelle I’m sure she lived in a house just arrived angles and she went round from the school behind a high wall anyone else in my class
With best wishes from lan
