More about this scene
The town was once under the control of the powerful de Montfort family. At Evesham on 4 August 1265, Simon de Montfort led the barons against the forces of Henry III. The barons were destroyed, and both Simon de Montfort and his son were among the dead. Shortly afterwards Henley was sacked and burnt. The church of St John the Baptist, the Guildhall and parts of the Blue Bell Inn date from the 15th century.
