Hednesford Hills Mineral Water Company
A Memory of Hednesford.
My Uncle Fred owned this factory at Pool House, Hednesford. He was my mothers brother and she was born there and lived there until married. I spent many happy times delivering lemonade with Mr Haynes to local pubs and shops in a very old truck. I also seem to remember some swings etc in a small childrens playground but not sure where.
There was also a large gasometer nearby Pool House and there was stories of a murder where the body parts were hidden down the side of the gasometer. I was very young at the time and now 79 so anybody who could throw some light or elaborate on this I would be very grateful.
My mothers maiden name was Owen and the lemonade factory was owned by Fred Owen and my mother was Gertrude Owen. I think my uncles wifes maiden name was Hotchkiss or something similar . I hope someone can help.
Thanks

Thank you for your post Helen
I'm planning a visit soon to Hednesford with other family members to do a bit of research as my family - the Cotterells/Potts/Grocutts all lived in the area.
Several were publicans and of course miners.
Good to make contact!
Helen
I never asked my parents where they met as my father was from Montgomery in Wales so not exactly on her doorstep. Why didn't I ask? My dad had been taken prisoner on the Somme in early 1918 but I knew little of that until recently as we were told not to mention the war.
I did speak to Auntie Ada in later life when she was in care but she had no idea who I was. Uncle Fred unfortunately had a leg amputation due to diabetes which I remember, my brother also had the same happen to him in later life. I had good times at Pool House, I remember tennis courts, crisps and ginger beer in bed. Got in trouble once for poking and destroying the gas mantle, they were very delicate. Happy days!!
Thank you Helen for refreshing my memories and I would love to hear more of Pool House on my mothers side. She had two sisters Winifred and Miriam, my aunties.
Kind regards
Clive
