Perkins, Turners And Wilson
A Memory of Heath Hayes.
For the last six years I have been looking at the families living in Heath Hayes and Norton Canes, and how these villages were so closely linked. Tracing my own family it was interesting to find that in the 18th century so many families moved from the farms in Shropshire to take up a life of mining. These traditions and close ties gave us all until the 1960's a strong sense of community. Like many my fondest memories are the ones of such total freedom as a child to wander the woods, play on the football ground adjoining the park, and know you didn't have to ask for help it was given. Returning recently, of course it's changed the old made room for the new and the atmosphere has changed for the better with all looking forward.
