Memories Of A Young Boy.
A Memory of Hayfield.
I lived in Hayfield from 1940 till 1960. My mother moved my brother and myself here to get away from the bombing of Manchester where I was born. I have so many memories of being brought up in this wonderful, for a small boy, place.
I well remember the Park Hall swimming pool, set in the middle of a wood, with statues on pillars all around. It cost 2/6d old money, or 25 pence in new money, a day to go there and we would take a picnic with us.
I lived here until I got married in 1960 and bought a new bungalow in Denton for ,I think, around £4000. Happy days!!!
I did try to write a history of the village and had a suitcase full of notes and photos and cuttings from newspapers which I passed on to someone many years later who was connected to the local history club. I wonder what happened to it all. Does anyone know?
