Harrow Tech

A Memory of Harrow.

I attended Harrow Technical College from 1962 till 1964. I left Harrow High School in 62 the private school in Gayton Road (not Harrow County for Boys ) which was a private fee paying school for kids that failed their 11 plus and were too scared to go to Chandos or Blackburn (?) secondary modern schools.
I spent 6 years going to school in Harrow, taking the no 18 bus from outside Sopers, home to Canons Park.

I was at Harrow High from 1947 to 1951, when I visited the area in 1981 I was shocked to see a pile of bricks as the old place had been demolished! I see that Harrow County has pinched our old name! Happy days, cheers, Peter Perryman. (in OZ).
I was at harrow high school (the private one not harrow county) first at the junior school in Peterborough road and from 1960 for 3 hellish years at the senior school ruled over by (I am not joking Dr Gobles ) the school was run on a diet of constant canings for the most trivial of offences.bullying was rife both by boys and the masters who lived in a fantasy world with their long black gowns and mortarboards like something from Harry Potter.they even had a mock parliament where the headmaster dressed up as the king..At the beginning of several terms boys who had offended in some way during the last term were caned over a vaulting horse in the assembly hall in front of the assembled school .There were also very suspicious goings on when certain favored boys were called out of class to go to the flat over the science lab where two of the senior masters lived and the time when a master "left"after having broken a boys fingers with a metal edged ruler. The school was run on fear with little time left for learning.i was never so happy as when my parents took me out of the place as I was doing so badly.
