Hadleigh, The Castle c.1960

More about this scene
Originally, Hubert de Burg was granted a licence to construct this castle in 1250, but it was completely rebuilt in the time of Edward III. Now little remains of the massive structure that once guarded the coast to the west of Leigh-on-Sea. The building fell into disrepair, especially in the 16th century. The castle was immortalised by John Constable.
