More about this scene
In 1748 cattle distemper was raging nationwide amid horned cattle. At Guisborough, an order was issued prohibiting the movement of all live cattle, even with a certificate. Farmers were compensated for losses, as the court ordered that Will Cass be paid 37s 6d for killing a cow suffering with distemper.
