The Premier Wireless Stores on the right is now Dean's TV Services. It and Hatherleigh next door were built as one building in 1903. Opposite, Craven A cigarettes were on sale at Ron James's general stores, now a private residence. Further down on the left is the road junction for Llangattock and Crickhowell just before the white building, the Beaufort Arms.

View Across Gilwern From Pentwyn Farm
The bottom part of this secen now lies under the Heads of the Valley Road. This is taken before the ‘old’ road was built, showing open fields down to the canal bank and the former Navigation Inn. You can see the Congregational Chapel in the left hand corner. The Farm was demolished when the old Heads of the Valley was built, but there is a footpath across the fields to Ty Gwyn.

Maesygwartha From Brunant Road
This is the view from Brunant Road, over Brunant Farm to Maesygwartha and Pantybeiliau. The Old Rectory just on the left edge.

Gilwern Mountain From Pant Y Beiliau
Looking across the Clydach Gorge from Pant-y-Beiliau Farm, before the Heads of the Valley Road was built. Brunant Farm in the middle of the picture. My grandparents’ house is in the middle left. The railway line running clearly across the middle. I grew up in a new house built next to my grandparents, so it’s fascinating for me to see how things looked before I was born. Gilwern Boats In The Forties
The boats were owned by a Mr Goodin, he hired them out by the hour and people came from all the valleys to go on the canal. We as teenagers used to make some pocket money by rowing those that could not row up the canal. They were fun times. Now the scene has changed since those days, it is now narrow boats that are on the canal.

Genealogy & Research Images

Despite over 20 years’ work on the archive, these scans have still not been individually checked and may prove to be damaged, faded, or not of sufficient quality to ever be offered in our full product range. However, if you would particularly like to buy one of these please get in touch quoting the Frith negative number,(s) the town name and size of print you would like to buy. On receipt of your enquiry our archivist will check the scan and advise you if the quality is good enough.

What is an Album?

An album is a way to save a selection of Frith photos, maps and memories that are of interest to you.

Creating an Album enables you to make short lists and then make a final selection from the album. In particular it makes ordering things like calendars much easier - simply create an Album of the 12 photos you like and then use the Album when placng your order - our order process will give you this option.

You can create as many Albums as you want, so perhaps make one for your hometown, where you live now, where your parents live now etc.
