Eary Days
A Memory of Garrowhill.
I was born at home in 1940 at Thornbridge Road, We had a large brick built air raid shelter at the side of our house as far as I can remember it was never used, I can remember being under the stairs with my mother a couple of times but as the German Air Force were no longer carrying out Major raids over Scotland by 1943 & afterwards they must have either false alarms on a lone photo recon flight.
On one occasion we were evacuated from our house, along with our near neighbours as a house two doors down had been hit by what turned out to be a dud shell fired by the AA battery stationed on the New Edinburgh Road, this was & still is I believe a dual carriage way and was closed off from the top of Barrachnie Road to the traffic lights in Baillieston.
