Happy Days
A Memory of Fleetwood.
I attended Stella Maris from 1955 to 1965, my peers at the time being Susan Burns, Sharon Crook, Susan Flaherty (best friend), Ann Caulfield, Rosaleen Steadman: Anne Lindley, Pat Langley, Catherine Mansell are other names I remember. Best memories? Fish and chips school lunch on Fridays, tennis on the courts at the park, english lessons. Worst memories? Sister Theresa who was deadly with the back of a blackboard duster at times, Sister Finbar who was so stern looking. Sister Margaret, was a real sweetie, so kind and warm, the complete opposite of many of the others.
I remember rolling down the Mount, waving to my dad as the trawlers set sail, the Moroccan coffee bar, the long walk home to the big estate on the edge of town. never minding how long it took to get home.
Happy days looking back, so few stresses and worries compared to today's youngsters who I actually feel quite sorry for, many of them look weighed down at a time when life should be fun and carefree. They have a lot of pressure, it seems, compared to our teenage years in the 60s.
Loved Fleetwood, haven't been back for decades and won't now. But my father was on the trawlers, radio operator and my mother worked for Greenwoods Steel, something like that?
If anyone remembers Edwina Lawson, and I doubt it very much as I was pretty forgettable back then, drop us a comment.
