Eyam`s parish church of St Lawrence has many memories of the tragic visitation of the plague in 1665-6. The heavily-restored church dates from the 13th century, and inside are a book showing the names of all the 350 victims of the plague, and the chair used by the rector, William Mompesson.

I am astonished that this collection is Francis Frith and I am assuming it is a coincidence that I found it when looking up Francis Frith of Eyam.
Francis Frith was a resident of Eyam in Derbsyhire. He and his wife were buried in Eyam on March 11th 1836. The unusual thing about this was that Francis first murdered his younger wife and then killed himself.

I married John Hollis from Eyam and we were married for 38 years. Sadly, he died in November 1995. John was born in Eyam, the youngest son of Arthur and Elizabeth (Vanes).They lived in the council houses on Grindleford Road. Eyam is famous for the village which contained the Plague. My husband's family comes from the Derby area. Our son is very proud of his Derbyshire roots, and sought to buy a house close to Derby yet - if possble - in a village in the Peak District.
