More about this scene
The Plantation and Madeira Walk below The Beacon and Louisa Terrace are a delightful stretch of green wooded shelter on hot days. These grounds were opened in 1838; they were strictly closed at sunset by a caretaker who would blow a warning horn before fastening the gates - a practice that continued until the start of the 20th century.
