My Childhood
A Memory of Erbistock.
I lived in Erbistock till the age of 20, that was in 1981 when I emigrated to Australia. My mum still lives there, my dad passed away a couple of years ago, he was born in Erbistock and lived down Groves Lane for nearly 70 years. I remember the peace and quiet, the harvest times driving the tractor and helping milk the cows. My grandmother lived in the council houses, where my uncle still resides.
I use to attend Erbistock primary school until it closed. I remember the two classrooms and the outside toilets. I remember always looking forward to the yearly fairs and helping my nan to find the best rose in her garden to display and hopefully win a prize.
I use to love walking through the woods down by the boat in through to tinkers brook, and when I was 15 I got a job at the Boat Inn washing glasses behind the bar.
I remember the riding school where Mr and Mrs Broad use to live, and I would look forward to our weekly riding lesson. I will be going back in 8 weeks time to visit family and my dad's grave which I haven't seen yet. Oh I hope things haven't changed too much but I suppose times change everywhere, Erbistock being no exception.
