A Memory of East Ham.

Does anyone remember Chambers Toys', Rumbelows, The Olympic Gym,Woolworths, Paula's gifts, Wimpy,Moores Wallpaper shop, Pratts timber yard, Setchells bakery, Porters , Gascoignes Newsagents, Apps Newsagents, Bike Inn bike shop (near The Green Man pub) such happy memories.

Yeah, bought our first Tv from Rumbelows. It was a Bush. High st north, right? Long gone now. Wimpy still there I think. Moore’s still there. Pratt’s closed two years ago
Green Man gone too. The whole area is like Baghdad now sadly. And I say that as an Indian who moved as a 5 year old and went to Monega Rd School and lived on Shrewsbury Rd for 30years. Saddens me to drive through East Ham today, it was a beautiful place. Cricket was played in Plashet Park with packed crowds- aren’t deco cafe and pavilion and toilets. It’s like a Middle East war zone now. Btw - anybody went to Mongega rd around 1965?
The rumbelows I remember was in Green Street opposite Boots the chemists which was on the corner of Harold Road. Maybe there was a Rumbelows in high street north too. Plashet Park was great, loved the children's zoo at the back.
