Ealing Village

A Memory of Ealing.

From the year I was born (1968) until the mid nineties I was brought up in Ealing Village, just off Hanger Lane. I have many fond memories of doing such things as building camps behind the tennis courts or in the White house, riding my bicycle and playing games outside whilst my parents knew we were out of harms reach. Now that I have grown up I am interested in learning more about its history concerning the period of WWII. I know that what we used to call the White House was in fact an ARP warder's hut. He would apparently walk around the estate to make sure that all the windows were blacked out after dark. What I would like to hear about is if anyone has any memories of that period within the bounderies of Ealing Village. Would love to meet someone who has photos of life during that bleak period in Ealing Village. I know that there are still several air raid shelters dotted around the place that have survived the ravages of time. Please, I would love to hear all about that period of time.

Hi Alex, Thank you for this memory. I wrote you a long private message but it seems to have disappeared. You may like to join the Ealing History group on Facebook. It's very good! I'm going to share your post there in the meantime. Warm regards, Joanna
