Doe Lea

A Memory of Doe Lea.

I remember playing in the streets when there was back to back houses before they knocked them down. I moved just before then, as far as I know I've still got relatives in Glapwell. I am related to the Blueits Blewits who lived there .

I used to spend some of school holidays in Doe Lea. I was born in West Street Doe Lea at my Aunties house, Annie Saxton (my mums sister) my Mum was part of a very large family, the Aspinall’s. Mum and Dad met when my Dad was in para training at Hardwick Hall. I have so many happy memories of Doe Lea not least the Whit fair. I loved walking across the fields to the fair. I remember the Blewitts too, particularly Fanny Blewitt, she used to call round at my Grandma’s (Sarah Aspinall) sometimes. I was devastated when I realised they demolished almost all of the village. So very sad, I loved the village and the people, Lilian Hart nee Hawkes
