More about this scene
We return up London Road to the Wheat Sheaf and turn right into New Street, formerly called Lichfield Street, which takes us back to the Market Place. Around 1960 redevelopment started in New Street with the demolition of the old police station. This view shows its replacement in the functional style of the day. It was extended in 1995 to cope with the increase in population. The stone building to the right is the Magistrates' Courthouse, also built around 1960.
