Pride Of The Valley
A Memory of Churt.
My mother was born in Churt and grew up at Number Four Sandy Lane. She worked for a time at the Pride of the Valley during the war and lived upstairs in one of the rooms. While working at the Pride, she met and later married a Canadian soldier who was stationed at Aldershot. He returned to Canada in 1943. She followed on the Empress of Scotland, becoming among the early of thousands of war brides. She is now 97 and lives in Victoria, BC.
My grandfather was head gardener at Chinton Hanger for 49 years and my uncle worked as a gardener at Lloyd George's estate.
These photos are real gems! Thank you for posting them.
