Cheltenham, The Promenade 1901

More about this scene
Neptune's Fountain was designed by the borough engineer Joseph Hall. Modelled on Rome's Fontana di Trevi and carved from Portland stone by the local firm of R L Boulton, this first gushed on 30 October 1893. It commemorates nothing, and is in memory of nobody; it was part of a general scheme to perk up the Promenade.
