It was along here that the Philosophical and Literary Institution had its premises in the early years of the 19th century, and one of the first scientific lecturers was Humphrey Davy. Davy also belonged to the Bristol Library Society. Its members included Samuel Taylor Coleridge, Robert Southey and William Wordsworth.
